CLASSES FOR GIRLS:
I teach mostly combination classes. Students learn and perform two different types of routines at the recital. This gives your student the opportunity to experience more than one style of dance, but they only have to attend one class.
BALLET AND CREATIVE MOVEMENT: This is a 3 and 4 year-old class with 6-8 students. The class will focus on creative movement and ballet. It will also have a tumbling element. I will take approx. 5 – 10 minutes per class to start teaching basic tumbling, but they will not perform a tumbling routine. This beginning class will only perform a ballet dance at the spring recital. Class will run for 30 minutes. As the year progresses – I will extend the class to 45 minutes as they are ready to stay on task longer.
BALLET/TAP CLASSES: I start girls at age 4 (as of Sept. 15th) For 4-year olds – the student would need to be attending kindergarten the following year. I teach all younger students ballet because it is the foundation of most dance genres. Students will also learn and perform a tap routine. I will take approx. 5 – 10 minutes per class to start teaching basic tumbling, but they will not perform a tumbling routine.
JAZZ/TAP CLASSES: In fourth grade I begin offering jazz classes. I teach traditional jazz components and as they get older into middle and high school I include more hip/hop, dance team type steps. I introduce jumps, leaps and turns. Students will learn a tap routine to perform. Students in this class will learn basic tumbling as well, but will not perform a tumbling routine.
JAZZ/BALLET CLASSES: This class is for 4th graders and older. It continues to work on ballet skills and I start introducing lyrical elements. The class will also learn a jazz number and start working on jumps, leaps, and turns. Students in this class will learn basic tumbling as well, but will not perform a tumbling routine.
TUMBLING/TAP CLASSES: This class is for the student that really enjoys tumbling. I choreograph a tumbling routine to music. In order to be in this class, students must be able to do a strong bridge with the head being held off the ground for at least 15 seconds. This is usually possible by 1st grade, but without this skill- there aren’t a lot of progressions available for choreography. This is not a gymnastic program. I will not have any apparatus work. I will work on all progressions up to backhand springs. I do not have a crash pit so I will not teach aerials or tucks.
TUMBLING/JAZZ CLASSES – For 5th grade and up – these are 1 hour classes. Focusing on traditional jazz components. For the more advanced tumbler!
NEW EXPERIENCE CLASS: The class will focus on several modes of dance including jazz, hip hop, lyrical and modern. It is a longer 1 hour class – so the monthly rate is $5 more than my normal classes. Students must be 4th grade or older to be in this class.
PRE-TEEN, PRE-POINTE, POINTE BALLET CLASSES – Taught by Melissa Powell – these are 1 hour long, single discipline classes. Pre-teen is for 5th-6th graders and Pre-pointe is for 7-8th graders unless otherwise evaluated. Pointe and Pre-Pointe 2 classes are available only after evaluations.
HIP HOP CLASSES – Taught by Cassie Jenkins – these are 1 hour long, single discipline classes. She will teach 5th– 12th graders.
